| 2007 |
| This Weekend |
28 December 2007 - The Firsts travel to Cam Bulldogs tomorrow hoping to avenge the 1-0 defeat in the first league game of the season. Cam are 1 place and 1 point behind Town in GNSL1 going into this game. Tomorrow's game between the Thirds and Beeches Reserves has been postponed; Beeches cannot get a side together. As a result, the Thirds will do battle against the Reserves who don't have a game scheduled either. If you haven't already been called and are interested in taking part give either Carl 07736 551391 or Jason 07843 699000 a call. Game will be at the Rec, kick-off 2pm. There's a ref and everything!

| Cup News |
28 December 2007 - The Firsts are drawn at home to Newton Heath in the Quarter Final of the County Cup to be played on 5 January 2008, kick-off 2pm. The Thirds will play Corinium Sports in the Semi-Final of the Mills-Roberts Cup date and time to be confirmed. The venue is also still to be confirmed but is likely to be the Corinium Stadium, home of Southern Premier League Cirencester Town. Having managed to avoid Taverners III and Stratton United in the draw, the Thirds will be serious contenders for a place in the Final.

| Christmas Round-Up |
27 December 2007 - Well, it's all over bar the turkey which we'll be eating for days to come. Firstly, everyone associated with TTFC hopes you have had a good break and that Father Christmas brought you all you wished for. Of course, there's still the Christmas tree and the falling snow that challenges your PC; they'll stay for a few more days; but with the months of preparation and retail fever behind us we can take a look back at last Saturday. The Thirds, in the only senior game of the weekend, went down 4-2 at home to Avonvale United Reserves. The opportunity to build on the previous week's victory over 'the 'Vale' was squandered, with youngsters Dan Lees and Lee Jones on the bench and some 'interesting' changes in the lineup. Starting well enough in the first 20 minutes, Town went 2-0 down by half-time and thereafter were always chasing the game. Lessons learned? Let's hope so!
The Christmas Disco was a great success and proved to be a great team-builder. 30 or so players from the Senior teams donned fancy dress and headed off around the town raising funds for local man, Mike Stone who is currently recovering from serious injuries suffered recently in a car crash. The teams raised just over £500 so a very big thank you to the Tetbury public and those at the Disco who gave so generously. Six tickets were drawn for the lottery and lucky winners were: - £500.00 to Robbie Hart with Pete Vater, Matty Baker, Sarah Norris, R.Smith and Tom Price all getting £100.00. A big thank you to all who organised and took part in the event.

| Today's Game |
22 December 2007 - While the rest of the senior teams, Men and Women, get a well deserved break and the opportunity to do some last minute shopping for the festivities, the Thirds have a return fixture against neighbours Avonvale United Reserves. Looking to build on last week's result Jason and Simon will be hoping for another solid performance and another three points as we head towards the New Year. Kick-Off is at 2pm at the Rec. If you're organised and have done all your Christmas shopping, come down and give the team your support. Tonight is the Christmas Disco as advertised on the Events page. 8pm at the Clubhouse, £4 in Advance, £5 on the door. Over 18s only. The Senior teams will be going round the Town in Fancy Dress, as is the tradition at this time of year, collecting for local charities and possibly downing a few pints in the process.

| Three From Three |
17 December 2007 - Tommy Dryden, in his first match as manager 'proper' , did what was asked of him and rallied the Firsts who responded in truly determined fashion by taking three points in a gritty win against Shortwood United Reserves. Down to 10 men and with a mountain to climb at 0-1, Town pulled it together to win 3-1 with Nik Peglar scoring a goal that Stuart Freeman would have been happy to see, having forked out £40, in a Premiership game. Yep, it was that good! The Reserves won by the same margin against Cam Bulldogs Reserves, having called upon the services of Dave Law and Lee Jones from the Thirds. The Thirds beat Avonvale United Reserves 2-1 up at the Leisure Centre. Going into the second half 2-0 up, Town lost veteran central defender Shaun Brooke with a Harry Potter-like gash on his aging temple. Brooky went off in search of a stitch and the team knuckled down to battle out the necessary three points. More of the same this Saturday when Avonvale come to the Rec. Doesn't look as though the Ladies had a game this week and there's no news yet on the Youth County Cup extrvaganza from yesterday. Who am I?...where am I?...what am I doing in front of this monitor?

| Town Appoint New Manager |
15 December 2007 - Following the resignation of Stuart Freeman as First Team Manager at the end of November the Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Tommy Dryden, formerly with Malmesbury Victoria, as the new manager. Tommy brings with him assistant Phil Goulding. Stuart made his likely intentions known at the November committee meeting and wheels were quickly put in motion to find a succcessor. Tommy was officially welcomed into his new position at the December meeting. Tommy brings with him a wealth of experience gained at a high standard of football and we look forward to his tenure at Tetbury Town. Please take time to welcome Tommy when you see him in the Clubhouse. Stuart finally decided to leave to allow himself more time with his son Glenn who has recently joined the Youth setup at Yate Town. This means Saturday football for Glenn and some distant away games. Stuart will continue to coach the U14s and remains an active member of the club. This is the official announcement from Chairman, Mike Harding. Following last Saturday's washout Tommy takes the reins in his first home game today at Preston Park against Shortwood United Reserves. The Reserves are at home to Cam Bulldogs Reserves and the Thirds make the long trek to the Leisure Centre in the first of back-to-back fixtures against local rivals Avonvale United Reserves. Perfect weather for football. Have an enjoyable afternoon whichever game you choose.

| Weekend Round-Up |
3 December 2007 - The Firsts progressed to the next stage of the County Cup following their 3-2 away win at Harrow Hill Reserves on Saturday with Phil Hall bagging a couple. Not the most dynamic of victories by all accounts but those in the know saw some good things that show promise. The Reserves went down 4-2 away at Whaddon United, also in the County Cup. Manager, Carl Wait wants it known that he was very proud of the performance and the resolve shown by his squad in the face of blatant aggression and intimidation from the opposition both on and off the field. It would be inappropriate to go into detail as there is likely to be a formal complaint lodged with the relevant authorities but Carl praised the determination and resilience shown by his team throughout the encounter, one in which Town had 2 goals disallowed for very questionable offsides whilst looking for the equaliser. The Thirds crashed to a 5-2 defeat away at Oakridge. Having drawn level at 1-1, Town let in two sloppy goals to trail 3-1 and went into the second half 4-1 down. Never looking likely to come back from such a deficit despite getting a goal it was clear that the day was going to belong to Oakridge. The Ladies game against Newent Town was postponed yesterday as were the U12 and U13 games. The U14 did manage to play and demolished Wooton Bassett Town 8 - 0 at the Rec in a League Cup encounter. They remain in second place in the League with a game in hand. |

| Youth Update |
26 November 2007 - Some parents have expressed concern that there is very little, if any, Youth news on the site. It's a fair cop, gov! As the senior season got under way there was no indication of the fixtures for the Youth sides on the North Wilts 'Full-Time' website and as a result they have not yet appeared here yet. In fairness to the Youth reps there have been match reports copied to me but I haven't managed to get them published here yet. Don't despair, it will happen! To all those who have sent and keep sending reports, do keep sending them. Youth updates will appear shortly |
| Weekend Round-Up |
26 November 2007 - Another disappointing weekend for the Firsts, going down to Brimscombe and Thrupp 2-0. The Reserves had another week off so it was down to the Thirds and the Ladies to bring home the bacon, so to speak. The Thirds beat Down Ampney 4-2 at the Rec on a dark cold afternoon. The scoreline does not reflect the pounding that Down Ampney took, particularly in the first 45 minutes when Town could have scored 7 or 8 goals. Following a free-kick where a younger member of the team lost his runner Town went into the second half a goal down at 0-1. The shock spurred them back into a dominant position in the second-half where they were quick to reply to equalise and go on to a 4-1 lead. It could have been five but for a disallowed goal. Down Ampney pulled one backed in the late stages which could have had an unsettling effect but the Thirds held firm and claimed another three points that take them to third in Cirencester League Division Two. The Ladies move into fifth in Glos County Women's League having dispatched Gloucester City 2nd XI with the same score, 4-2. |
| County Cup Fixtures |
24 November 2007 - Last weekend saw the Firsts draw at home to Kingswood 3-3. It was good to see young Tom Henderson, a prolific goalscorer for the Thirds in the early part of the season, get a well-deserved opportunity. Tom, now doing great things for the Reserves under Carl Wait, scored his first goal for the Firsts. It was a well-taken strike by all accounts and a sure sign that he has a great future ahead of him. A late goal from Phil Hall seemed to have ensured all three points for Town but, as is often the case, they took their foot off and allowed Kingswood to steal a very late equaliser and take a point. The Thirds won a place in the Semi-Final of the Mills-Roberts Cup by beating South Cerney 4-0, having learnt their lesson from the 3-0 defeat at Cerney's hands only 2 weeks previously. Attacking from the off, not allowing South Cerney to settle and knowing that the opposition come unstuck very easily once they lose control of a game were the key ingredients in this encounter. Today the Firsts travel to Brimscombe and Thrupp and the Thirds welcome Down Ampney Reserves to the Rec. Taking only one point from their encounters with Brimscombe last season, with a solitary goal being scored in both games, means that Stuart will have his work cut out today. Having beaten Down Ampney earlier in the season in baking sunshine on a rock-hard surface, things will be a bit different at the Rec today on what promises to be a cold, wet afternoon. Having not had a game last week and having conceded 16 goals in their last three outings, Down Ampney will not be relishing their visit to Tetbury today. |
| County Cup Fixtures |
17 November 2007 - Fixtures just announced for the next round of the County Cup competitions that the club is still involved in. The ties will take place on 1 December when the Firsts will travel to Cinderford to take on Harrow Hill Reserves and the Reserves meet Whaddon United from the Cheltenham League Second Division at Whaddon. |
| Today's Games |
17 November 2007 - Only two senior games today, with the Reserves getting a rest this week. The Firsts entertain Kingswood for the second time in a month, having beaten them 4-0 in the County Cup at the end of October. With the team currently in 6th position in GNSL Division 1, 4 places above today's opposition there's a good opportunity for another 3 points. The Thirds face South Cerney Reserves in the Mills-Roberts Cup down at the Rec and will be looking to overturn the defeat of a couple of weeks ago. A few players had less than satisfactory games that day; they know who they are and I'm sure they will be more focused today. We are all entitled to the occasional off-day but today its time to make amends and move one step closer to the silverware. Tomorrow the Ladies are also playing a cup-tie with a home game against Cleeve West Town |
| Reserves moving up |
13 November 2007 - Another three from three for the senior men's sides this week and a win for the Ladies on Sunday. The Firsts took three points from Newton Heath but from the scoreline it loooks as though they made a meal of it. They ran out 4-3 winners in what was a tough, physical encounter. The Reserves, seemingly unstoppable at the moment, move into second place in Stroud League Division 3, with their 3-1 win away at Quedgeley Wanderers, with goals from Danny Sharpe, Tom Henderson and Alex Whitehall. The Thirds got back in the groove, sort of, winning 3-1 at home to Corinium Sports which keeps them bubbling under in fourth place in Cirencester League Division 2. Missing James Ogden through injury and with Insull and Brooke taking their turns on the bench, the change in lineup could have had an unsettling effect, but with the return of the Twiss brothers putting some youth back into the squad and some gritty performances from Lee Jones and Andy Baker another three points were in the bag. South Cerney again this Saturday in the Cup. Jason & Simon will know what they have to do following the 3-0 defeat against Cerney a couple of weeks ago. |
| Today's Games |
10 November 2007 - In a frenzy of alliteration , Tetbury Town travel to Teddington, Tewkesbury today to face Division One newcomers and bottom of the table, Newton Heath. Taking their name from the forerunners of Manchester United, Newton Heath have yet to win a game this season. Having finished third in Division Two last season they are finding the transition difficult. We have struggled against lowly opposition this season so it's not a forgeone conclusion that the points will be in the bag come 5 o' clock this afternoon. No squad news available. The Reserves, riding high on the wave of success so far this season are away at Quedgeley Wanderers. Carl's squad is settled and firing on all cylinders and sits comfortably just behind the leaders of Stroud League Division 3 with games in hand over their neighbours. The Thirds have their first return fixture of the season, welcoming Corinium Sports to the Rec. Following last week's defeat at home (are they going to play any away games this season??) when internal bickering undermined their composure, Jason and Simon will hopefully stick with a 4-4-2 formation and employ the services of Lee Jones and Andy Baker up front in an attempt to get back to the goal scoring ways of a month or so ago. Tomorrow the Ladies take on Bristol & West who are one place below them in the Glos County League. Have a good weekend, everyone. |
| Lottery News |
9 November 2007 - The Lottery numbers last Saturday were 6,18 & 21 with no outright winner so 6 tickets were drawn at random following the main draw and the following lucky people had unexpected windfalls. Kirsty Stevens - £500, Mo Norris (Dave Norris's mum) - £100, Val Marks - £100, Michelle from Maureen's chippy - £100, Harold ' Chappie' Sparrow - £100 and Liz Ashmead - £100. It is likely that this will happen again in a few weeks if the main prize isn't won. Following last week's committee meeting we are investigating options that will allow more frequent payouts. |
| Reserves Progress in County Cup |
5 November 2007 - The Firsts and Thirds had a less than joyous weekend but more of that later. The Reserves, however, go from strength to strength with what has to be the best start to a season in years. On Saturday they travelled to the Forest and put 6 past English Bicknor in their County Cup fixture. The final result was 6-1 with goals from Danny Sharpe (2), Alex (2), TJ and Scott Seal. Speaking to one of the Reserves squad in the Clubhouse on Saturday evening you get the feeling that the mix is now right with a great attitude both on and off the field, something that had been lacking in years gone by. Check out the fixtures page and see their results..heartwarming. The Firsts went down 3-0 at home to the undbeaten Slimbridge Reserves. Stuart was let down by a player who contacted him just over an hour from kick-off which threw his plans into confusion and spectators tell me that Slimbridge were by far the better side. The Thirds went down at home to South Cerney Reserves by the same 3-0 margin. Cerney are a good side but we made them look better with a lack of cohesion in the middle and some glaring miscommunication at the back between Andy and Shaun on a couple of occasions. With a lone striker up front in the shape of Pavo in the first half it was going to be difficult. With two up front in the second there was deeper penetration and more chances but Cerney scored with a disputed offside for the second and with Pavo, now at the back, deflecting a shot past Meach for the third the game was put out of Town's reach. |
| Firsts put four past Kingswood |
29 October 2007 - The Firsts continued their winning ways with a 4-0 home win against Kingswood AFC in the County Cup on Saturday at Preston Park. With Matt Bennett, back from Australia, teaming up with Phil Hall it could have been a wider margin. The Reserves took all three points at lowly Alkerton Rangers with a 3-2 win and the Thirds made a meal of their 2-0 home win against Oaksey Reserves with veteran defender Andy Insull missing a penalty which is unusual for him. Still, 3 points are 3 points and to have all the senior sides record wins is a rare treat this season. The weekend coming sees the Firsts back in League harness with a home game against Slimbridge Reserves. The Reserves travel to the Forest of Dean to face English Bicknor in the County Cup and the Thirds welcome South Cerney Reserves in a Cirencester League Division 2 fixture that will be a rehearsal for the Mills Roberts Cup match between the two sides a fortnight later on 17 November. |
| Weekend Round-Up |
22 October 2007 - The Firsts gained their second consecutive win 3-2 away at Brockworth and the Reserves won 4-2 at home to Berkeley Town Reserves and move to 3rd in Stroud League Division 3 with games in hand over the leaders. Great turnout for the Thirds who with the help of George 'Goggs' Harding and Jimmy Eddolls had 19 players at the practice match up at Preston Park. Sadly the Ladies lost 3-1 at home to Cam Bulldogs on Sunday. Brookey's on holiday until Friday evening so there will be no further updates until then. Have a good week. |
| Tomorrow's Games |
19 October 2007 - The Firsts travel to Brockworth Albion tomorrow. Again, a team below us in the League who are not having an easy time this season with no wins to their name, home or away. Time for another 3 points, methinks. The Reserves welcome Berkeley Town Reserves to the Rec. With some additions to the squad from the Firsts for a variety of reasons, return from injury etc. Carl and Gareth will be looking to get back to winning ways in the League following the defeat of Frampton in the Cup a couple of weeks ago and the unfortunate postponement of the game against Shortwood United Reserves. The Thirds will be at Preston Park bottom pitch in a training game following Chalford IIIs withdrawal from the Mills-Roberts Cup. Despite efforts to bring forward their league game with Ashton Keynes Reserves, they were unsuccessful because Ashton are another club struggling to field a full complement of teams this season. What are people doing these days? Shopping? One hopes not!! |
| Kids Halloween Disco |
19 October 2007 - See the Club Events page for the latest 'do' in the TTFC Social Calendar. Printed tickets are waiting to be sold for a Halloween Family Disco at the Dolphins Hall. Friday 2nd November 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
Soft drinks bar - adults to bring own alcohol.Fancy dress prizes. £1.00 a child, £3.00 an adult.
We really need support on this one Ladies & Gentlemen. Ideally we would like all managers to come forward and volunteer for something...apple bobbing, covering the bar, door, or to organise something for the kids whilst they are there.
This could be not only a team building event for the youth but for the club as a whole? Let's get all the teams together and act like a club.
Please can you spread the word to your teams and the parents, please. If you need flyers let Julie Hoare know. Thanks Julie for driving this one! |
| Weekend Round-Up |
15 October 2007 - The Firsts finally delivered on Saturday with a 4-2 win at home to Longlevens AFC. By all accounts Longlevens had the majority of the play but the strike pair of Phil Hall and James Sherwood were instrumental in Town being able to put away the majority of the chances they made. The Thirds got back to their winning ways with a 5-1 victory at home to Oakridge. With their big striker, Wayne, not getting the service he deserved Oakridge never really troubled the Tetbury back four and with Asa Weston and James Ogden solid in the centre of midfield and Andy Baker and Danny Lees on the flanks it was another solid performance |
| Today's Games |
13 October 2007 - Following last week's defeat at Cheltenham, the Firsts welcome the return of Longlevens AFC to Preston Park this afternoon. After losing the first encounter in the Reg Davis Cup 1-0 to a disputed penalty the team will be looking to level matters this time around. Home games are where we must pick up the majority of our points. Home supporters will be pleased to see former Cirencester Town striker, Phil Hall back in an orange shirt for the first time in a while. Injury and unavailability have depleted the squad this week. With Nik Peglar, Tony Oakley, Ben Jackson, Byron Alley and Jason Hoare all out Stuart has called on Reserves, Darryl Hoare, Danny Wait and Kev Purnell. As a result there is no Reserves game this week. The Thirds welcome Oakridge to the Recreation. Games against Oakridge are always tight affairs and the new Management team of Jason Williams and Simon Stevens will be looking for maximum points following the effort and commitment shown against Taverners last week. |
| Last Weekend Round-Up |
10 October 2007 - Sorry this is late, been working for a living. Last Saturday saw the Firsts go ahead within 30 secs of the start away at Cheltenham Civil Service but they came unstuck yet again losing 3-2 in the end. The Reserves went to Frampton in their County Cup fixture and beat them for the second time this season coming away 5-1 victors. The Thirds had the only home fixture at the Rec and went down 3-2 in a battling encounter with Taverners III. For the second game running they were awarded 2 penalties. It was the turn of the unfortunate James Ogden to miss the first one. Veteran goalkeeper, Gary Norris stepped up to claim the second and scored handsomely. James Meacham, playing out for the first time this season scored what, arguably, may be the goal of the season, pivoting through 180 degrees to volley into the top of the net. With a team of, shall we say, more seasoned players, Tavs were clearly running out of puff in the last 20 minutes and the young Thirds fought and fought for the all-important equaliser. Sadly, it didn't come but the effort and commitment throughout the team was admirable. They need fear no-one this season, that's a fact! Sunday afternoon saw Tetbury Ladies play host to current league leaders Yate Town. Tetbury were extremely unlucky to go a goal down in the first 10 minutes following a deflected shot of one of our own players. The game progressed into an end to end, physical battle and the girls have to be commended on their battling display. Several chances came Tetbury’s way, but they just couldn’t convert them. Tetbury managed to keep Yate at bay until the last ten minutes when they finally managed to score in open play. Final score Tetbury 0-2 Yate. The girls clearly have the ability to complete equally in this higher league, but just need a little more fitness and a bit more physical |
| Today's Games |
6 October 2007 - The Firsts are away at Cheltenham Civil Service today. With only 3 points on the board Cheltenham have not had the best start to their season but games with them are always tough, physical affairs. With a depleted squad through injury and work commitments, Stuart will be calling upon Carl's Reserves to bolster the numbers. The Reserves take on Frampton United Reserves in the County Cup at Frampton. Having beaten Frampton already in the Stroud Charity Cup, Carl will be looking for a repeat performance. The Thirds welcome Taverners III to the Rec this afternoon, returning to their Cirencester League campaign following their early exit from the County Cup last week. |
| Tetbury Ladies in County Squad |
3 October 2007 - Good news…Cindi Beale had a meeting about setting up the girls section with Sally Stewart (caretaker manager of the Ladies County side) and she confirmed that all 3 of our trialists are in the squad….Aine Redmond, Charlie Griffin and Steph Hill. Congratulations from all at TTFC! |
| Weekend Round-Up |
1 October 2007 - Not the best set of results this week, I'm afraid. On Saturday the Reserves gained the only point for the Senior sides with a 1 - 1 draw away at Eastcombe. The Thirds went down 6 - 4 to Wotton Rovers 'A' in the County Cup after extra-time. Having gone behind from a penalty in the first-half, Town were always playing catch-up and having managed to get to 3 - 3 after 90 minutes they ran out of steam. Wotton weren't a bad side and in the end their physical presence and the naivety of some of the younger players contributed to our downfall. Good to see Rob Cook don a pair of boots again; hopefully he enjoyed his run-out with the Thirds and is ready to be called upon again to team up with Dave Law in the centre of midfield. Lee Jones, worldly beyond his years in his willingless to get 'stuck-in', scored yet another hat-trick and Tom 'TJ' Henderson got the other. With their County Cup game postponed, the Firsts went to Sharpness yesterday in the Stroud Charity Cup and lost 3 - 2. Some shennanigans there, by all accounts, with an incident involving Nik Peglar having a ball volleyed into the back of his head from close range whilst play was halted and a couple of bookings had an unsettling effect. The Ladies played Warden Hill at home and lost 2 - 0. The fixture had been reversed at short-ish notice. Apologies for not publishing this here but we weren't made aware of the change. The Reserves play their County Cup fixture this coming Saturday but its back to the League for the Firsts and the Thirds. |
| School Disco |
30 September 2007 - Message from Julie Hoare - "Can I say a huge thank you to you all for helping put up tents, take them down, decorating, cleaning etc on Saturday night at the School Disco. I think everyone had a great time? Not sure how much money was made yet but will let you know as soon as I have the figures. Thanks to Michelle and Annette (Darryl's mum) for cleaning the club house on Thursday night, thanks to Trolly for a fab disco and only charging a minimal amount, Marie for all the signs and decorations of which she didn't charge the club for, Lucy for all the lollies and goodies for the tuck shop again of which she didn't charge the club for. Thank salso to the ladies team who co-ordinated the bar. Sorry if I have missed anyone out but not feeling too good this morning....... must be a bug!"

| Cup Weekend |
28 September 2007 - The Firsts fixture against Cirencester United Reserves has been POSTPONED. This will give the squad chance to focus on their Stroud Charity Cup match away at Sharpness on Sunday, kick-off 2pm. The Thirds play Wotton Rovers 'A' at the Rec tomorrow afternoon, kick-off 2.30pm. The Reserves don't play in their County Cup section until next week and are away, in a Stroud League Division 3 game, at Eastcombe. Tomorrow night there is a 'School Disco' at the Clubhouse starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £3 in advance or £4 on the door. Should be a good night! On Sunday, the Ladies re-start their League campaign with an away fixture at Warden Hill United. |
| Weekend Round-Up |
24 September 2007 - The Senior teams made a meal of their fixtures this weekend. The Firsts picked up three points against Star FC with a 2-1 win at Preston Park but both Stuart and Rich admitted that Star must have been very disappointed not to have got more from the game having taken the lead and having been declined a penalty by the referee. So we are obviously not out of the woods yet! The Reserves lost 3-2 away at Cam Bulldogs Reserves in a game which they should have won (and that is according to the Cam players themselves) and despite being resident in the Cam half of the field for most of the second half they couldn't make it count. The Thirds have a similar story to tell from their encounter with Kingshill SC Reserves. The game ended 3-3 but the game should have been over by half-time with Tetbury missing numerous clear-cut chances. Same story in the second-half but add a missed-penalty to the mix and it became a struggle for a draw. The point was won with a second penalty, put away by the ever-reliable Andy Insull who took over penalty duty after the first bodged attempt by Lee Jones. A double figure tally should be being celebrated today but in reality we were relieved to have gained that point! |
| Today's Games |
22 September 2007 - The Firsts welcome Division 1 newcomers, Star FC, to Preston Park. The former Cheltenham League side, not unlike ourselves, were promoted last season after only one season in Division. They are finding the move-up a challenge but earned their first point of the season against Shortwood United Reserves last week so will be looking to build on that result today. Stuart and Rich have the squad at full strength with the return of captain Luke Bedwell and Nick Passmore. Looking to overturn two disappointing results they will be expecting nothing but 100% concentration and effort this afternoon. The Reserves travel to Cam Bulldogs Reserves this afternoon. After 2 excellent results in the league so far, Carl and the squad are in understandably high spirits. The Thirds entertain Kingshill SC Reserves at the Rec. (kick-off 2.30pm). With Lee Jones and Tom Henderson already having bagged hat-tricks this season there is fierce competition and a real desire to take-on defences and score goals. With a goal tally of 14 - 1 in the last three games, things are looking rosy. As this is the first Senior game at the Rec this season sincere thanks go to the following who have decorated the clubhouse and changing rooms, painted goalposts and marked the pitch in readiness for today..Gareth Davies, John Warner, Rich Avis and Cliff Newman or decoration/tiling/flooring changing rooms; Gary Norris for painting the goalposts and John Warner, Andy Insull, James Niblett and Shaun Brooke for marking the pitch. Hope everyone has a good afternoon! |
| Weekend Round-Up |
17 September 2007 - The Firsts season has stalled somewhat following their 1 - 0 defeat at the hands of Bourton Rovers on Saturday. A penalty strike following a challenge by keeper Dwayne Portlock was enough to see the team remain on 3 points from 4 games. The Reserves remain unbeaten this season following a 5 - 1 victory over Dursley Town Reserves and the Thirds remain in 3rd place in Cirencester League Division 2 following a 4 - 0 away win at Down Ampney with Lee Jones bagging 3. The Ladies went to Adams Park, the home of Wycombe Wanderers in the Women's FA Cup. Despite losing 8 - 0 to a stronger side the girls enjoyed the experience of playing in the League Division 2 side's stadium. Get well soon to Amy Bryan, the Tetbury keeper who suffered a knee injury that warranted gas and air and a 3 hour wait in the A&E department of Stoke Mandeville hospital. Nothing serious, it transpires. |

| Today's Games |
15 September 2007 - The Firsts travel to Bourton Rovers today hoping to kick-start their season after last week's disappointing result. Stuart and Rich will be certainly be looking for maximum points today against a team with 1 point and a goal difference of -12. The Reserves who have made an excellent start to their season entertain Dursley Town Reserves this afternoon at Preston Park. The Thirds, who are also on a roll, visit Down Ampney Reserves a side that got thumped 15 - 1 last week against top of the table, Stratton United. They'll be wanting to bolster their pride after such a defeat so it could be a toughie. |
| Ladies v Wycombe Wanderers |
15 September 2007 - Good luck to Cindi and the girls as they prepare to travel to Adams Park, the home of Wycombe Wanderers in their FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round tie. Kick-Off is 2pm It would be good if the girls had some support tomorrow so if you've got nothing planned why not head down the A40/M40. |

| Youth News |
15 September 2007 - U13s Coach Gareth Davies is pictured below with youth sponsor, Phil Fry of Angling Technics holding one of the new training tops. Gareth had this to say 'We are again grateful to Angling Technics for their continued support of the youth section, and especially for the Under 13 boys who appreciate the fact that they are among the best kitted out teams in their league'. Also pictured are the boys in the new tops

| Girls Put on a Good Show at County Trials |
14 September 2007 - Charlie Griffin, Stephanie Hill & Aine Redmond attended County Trials for the first time last Thursday. Despite initial nerves, all three girls put in an excellent performance and thoroughly enjoyed the football which was played at a pace much faster than the one they are used to. Thursday’s trial was part 1 of the process and they will need to put in a similar performances next Thursday to claim a spot in the County Squad. We wish you all the best of luck |
| County Cup Draw |
14 September 2007 - The draw for the various County Cup competitions has been announced. The Firsts will take on Cirencester United Reserves away on 29 September, the Reserves will take on Frampton United Reserves away on 6 October and the Thirds will play Wotton Rovers 'A' at home on 29 September. All matches will kick off at 2.30pm. The Reserves have already played Frampton United Reserves in a cup fixture this season, winning 2 - 1 in the Stroud Charity Cup. Cirencester United Reserves play in the Hellenic League Reserve Division 1 and Wotton Rovers 'A' play in Stroud League Division 6. Here's hoping for a good cup run for all teams this season |
| Corinium Sports 1 Tetbury Town 'A' 5 |
13 September 2007 - The Thirds scored five again last night against Corinium in another confidence-boosting performance that that takes them to third place in Cirencester Division 2. Goals came from Lee Jones (2), Tom Henderson, James Ogden and Dave Law. The core squad is now starting to gel and the signs are all positive. Next game is away at Down Ampney Reserves this Saturday. |
| Bar Duty Rota |
10 September 2007 - There were a lot of people in the bar on Saturday after the games which was good to see but without the help of Sarah Norris, Dave Norris, Danny Sharpe and Michelle Hoare the bar would have had to close following the Cricket match. Had the cricketers not had a game the bar would not even have opened. Holiday and personal commitments contributed to this unfortunate situation but to prevent the risk of it happening again we desperately need volunteers to help out on a Saturday afternoon. A bar rota is being drawn up so please contact Mike (07970 109170) or Shaun (503999) to add your name to the list. Think about it for a minute...the more people that offer to do a stint behind the bar means that there will be a longer gap between the times you are required to help out. Simple solution to a simple problem. If we can't get help then THE BAR WILL NOT OPEN. Sad but true. |

| Weekend Round-Up |
10 September 2007 - 4 goals from Danny Sharpe in the Reserves 6 - 2 victory away at Trident FC sees them remain unbeaten this season and get their League campaign off to a very promising start. The Firsts were less fortunate, going down 2 - 0 at home to Lybrook Athletic. Not the best performance from the squad this season against a good side from the Forest. The Thirds went to CHQ United Reserves where Tom Henderson scored a hat-trick in the 5 - 0 victory. Other goals came from Lee Jones and Andy Baker. With Asa Weston marshalling the back four CHQ never looked like troubling us and the scoreline could easily have been doubled. The Ladies started their league season yesterday with a cracking 4 - 1 victory away at Newent Town. The Ladies face Wycombe Wanderers next Sunday in the FA Cup and it looks as though they will be playing in the Adams Park Stadium. Follow this link for details. Sadly the Youth games this weekend saw the U12 and U15 sides go down 7 - 0 and 12 - 0 respectively. |
| Thirds Game v CHQ United Reserves - Fixture Reversed |
7 September 2007 - Due to the uncertainty over the completion of the Skate Park at the Rec and the knock-on effect this has on the preparation of the pitch there, the game against CHQ will now be AWAY at their ground at Hatherop. Meet at the Rec at 1pm. Please pass this messsage on to anyone who does not have email or internet access. |
| Signing-On Fees |
5 September 2007 - Just a reminder that Senior Signing-On fees are due now. For less than the cost of a night out ( I know we say this every year, but it's true!) we get to play the sport we love on good pitches and with the support of a good committee and numerous unsung volunteers. The fees are £20 ( £10 for Students/Unemployed) Please approach your Team Manager or any member of the Committee with the money. We would like at least half of the fee by the end of September and the remainder by the end of October, please. Not too much to ask, considering the price of a pint these days! |
| Catch-Up |
5 September 2007 - OK. Back from holiday. The Firsts have played a couple of games and after the disappointment of the opening day defeat against highly-fancied Cam Bulldogs 1 - 0, a disappointing result but pleasing insomuchas we were not too far behind a team that have been talked up for the title this year. Last Saturday we went to Broadwell in the Forest and came home with a 4 - 1 victory and 3 points with special mentions for Byron who gave their long-haired full back a hard time and to Dave Apperley who continues to improve as he moves into the higher standard of NSL 1. The Reserves progressed to the Second Round of the Stroud Charity Cup having beaten Frampton Reserves 2 - 1. The Thirds lost 4 - 2 to Beeches Reserves in their first game and, unfortunately had to cancel their second ,against Bibury Reserves due to lack of players. Tonight they take on Chalford III and 'Tall Paul' (remember him?) up at the bottom pitch at Preston Park. Kick Off 6.30pm. |

| TTFC Lottery |
24 August 2007 - The new season starts tomorrow and with it the TTFC Lottery. The Club would like to thank all those who bought and sold tickets last season. The money raised through the lottery, (£6,000) has gone towards the Cirencester Road Development Project for a new clubhouse and training facilities that will benefit the whole of the Tetbury Community and not just the football club. A big thank you goes to Paul Raines for sponsorship of the tickets to Brenda Freeman for her untiring efforts and to the outlets that sell tickets on our behalf, Tetbury Fish and Chip Shop, The Greyhound, Dougfield's and Pearce’s. We hope to have a more outlets joining in soon. Please everyone keep buying lottery tickets! Sales start soon and the first draw will be tomorrow following the first league game of the season at Preston Park against Cam Bulldogs |

| Ladies News |
22 August 2007 - The Ladies team are pleased to announce that they have found a coach for the forthcoming season in Gloucestershire County Women’s League Division 1. Manager Cindi Beale has employed Amy Bryan as team coach for this season, Maggie O'Connell as team captain and Charlie Griffin as vice-captain. They played their first friendly of the pre-season the other Sunday, beating Brize Norton 6 – 3 with goals from last years top scorer Charlie Griffin (2), Emily Tudgay (2) and new signing Emma Robinson 2. Cindi was delighted with the performance, particularly because 2 of the goals came from moves which they'd worked upon in training. Cindi is keen to stress that it is not too late to come and join the Ladies setup, which looks promising. Call her on 07971 735542. Following yet another friendly cancellation last weekend against Warden Hill, the ladies were offered another evening fixture against Swindon Spitfires. This game is due to kick off 7pm at Preston Park on Thursday night. It will be an ideal stage to try out 3 potential new signings, this will provide some stiff competition for Tetbury as they face the SW Reg Premier side. The forthcoming fixture against Swindon Town Reserves this Sunday has been switched to a HOME tie. Tetbury Ladies will be kicking off at 2pm at Preston Park. All spectators welcome.

| Tetbury Town 'A' v Kingshill SC |
22 August 2007 - Yesterday evening at Preston Park, the fledgling third team had their first game of football as a 'team' before the start of the season next week against Beeches Reserves. With seventeen players available last night the game was played in three 30 minute segments to 'try' everyone out in a match situation. Kingshill fielded a strong side and Tetbury more than matched them for the first 30 minutes. With changes of personnel and movement into unfamiliar positions it was difficult for us to retain our shape and things came a little unstuck during the final 30 minutes. The step up to Senior football will be a challenge but the new breed, with a few seasoned campaigners will rise to that challenge come next Wednesday. |

| U13s win 6-A-Side Tournament |
21 August 2007 - Beeches Football Six - A - Side Tournament Sunday 19th August - After a very rocky start, losing their first game the present U13s (U14s 2007/2008) managed to get it together and play football to win their next games and reach the semi final. After a nerve racking penalty shoot out yet again Tetbury got to the final and came away with the winners trophy. Congratulations to the boys! - Glenn, Rhino, Joshy, Kyle, Finn, Tom & Joe and a big thank you to Stu, Daz and Jiggy for all their hard work |
| Tetbury Town Reserves 7 Taverners Reserves 3 |
18 August 2007 - Today the Reserves beat Taverners Reserves from the Cirencester League 7 - 3 on the lower pitch at Preston Park. The Thirds have a pre-season friendly against Kingshill SC on Tuesday 21 August, also at Preston Park. |
| Tetbury Town Reserves 9 Oaksey 3 |
17 August 2007 - Last night the Reserves played Oaksey from Cirencester League Division One in their second pre-season friendly on the lower pitch up at Preston Park. In three 30 minute segments they ran out 9 - 3 winners with Matt Stevens scoring at least 2 from magnificent headers. Other scorers were Danny Sharpe (2), Darryl Hoare (2), Scott Seal, Alex Whiteman and Danny Wait. |
| Tetbury Town 0 Longlevens AFC 1 |
16 August 2007 - On a damp, miserable evening at Preston Park the Firsts sadly dropped out of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup losing to one of two second half penalties against an uncompromising Longlevens side. Having had a first half goal disallowed following a questionable (for us, anyway!) offside decision, it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Nice to see a decent sized crowd there too despite the rain later on. No word yet on the quality or otherwise of the Tetbury performance. No pictures from the game either. Miserable evening all-round, then. It's now a case of onward to the League campaign with the possibility of another friendly before the Cam game on 25 August. |
| Tonight's Game v Longlevens AFC |
15 August 2007 - The Firsts take on Longlevens AFC tonight at Preston Park in the Second Round of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup. With a full strength squad we are prepared for a tough encounter against the Gloucester side that finished 1 place and 1 point behind us in Northern Senior Division 1 last season. Runners Up in 2005/2006, Longlevens are no pushover and with a new management team in place they will be looking to impress. Should be good. Kick-Off is 6.30pm. There is a third training session for the Thirds at the Rec tonight starting at 6.30pm. Looking for a good turnout yet again. Pass on the message to those you know who don't have access to the website. |

We basically were selling it as fast as it was going in the coolers! A very big thank you to all who contributed and helped! Onto the footballing side - The Ladies fixtures have finally been brought up to date, having been virtually re-written by the League. Unfortunately, the Youth Fixtures have yet to be added here, but they are available from the Football Links pages. There was another well-attended Training Session with Phil Seal at the Rec on Saturday afternoon. Again, there were 10 players, including Ed Twiss and former first-teamer, Danny Wait. It was an informative and, dare I say it, fun 80 minutes or so. This week the Firsts welcome Longlevens AFC for the Second Round of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup following last week's victory over Shortwood. The Reserves take on Oaksey at home in their second pre-season friendly on Thursday. Does anyone have a number for Nik Moulder?. Email admin@tetburytownfc.org.uk if you have. |

| Saturday's Result - Tetbury Town 4 Andoversford Nomads 1 |
12 August 2007 - On a very hot afternoon the Firsts with a few of the promising reserves defeated a physically strong Andoversford Nomads side from the Cheltenham League. 2 - 0 up at half-time and having allowed the Nomads to pull a goal back, James Sherwood and Byron Alley, working very well together as always, combined in the two final goals to leave the final score at 4 - 1 to Tetbury. Stuart will have more to say on the performance later today hopfefully otherwise Wednesday's programme might be a bit thin! |
| Thirds Training |
11 August 2007 - There is another training session at the Rec for the Thirds squad at 2pm this afternoon. Phil will be giving us another interesting hour or so of his time to get the squad ready for the first game of the season on 29th August away at Beeches Reserves. Please be there ready for a prompt start. Call Shaun for details on 01666 503999 |
| Tetbury Town 5 v Shortwood United Reserves 3 |
8 August 2007 - Tonight the Firsts progressed to the second round of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup after defeating Shortwood in an 8 goal fiesta at Preston Park. A large crowd saw Town open the scoring from a Scott Pawlowski penalty within 10 minutes of the start with Shortwood drawing level soon after. At 5 - 1 we took the foot of the pedal a little and allowed the opposition to pull 2 goals back which had unskilled observers of the game thinking that Shortwood might have been in with a chance. It was not to be and Stuart and his boys will welcome Longlevens to town next week at the same time for the round two. Pictured left is Nik Peglar about to unleash the shot that became goal number 3 or was it 4? Elsewhere the Reserves went to Didmarton FC and won by the same margin and in a similar fashion going ahead 5 - 1 and ending up 6 - 4 winners in their first pre-season friendly. |
| Thirds Training |
7 August 2007 - Both the Firsts and Reserves have games this Wednesday, the normal training evening. The Thirds , however, are invited to a training session on Thursday evening at the Rec at 8pm, courtesy of Phil Seal. With only three weeks before the Thirds start their League season and with no prospect of any proper friendlies it is clear that the squad need to get together as much as possible. Those that have attended one of Phil's sessions know that they are a little different and well worth the effort of turning up. If you read this and can come along please give Shaun Brooke a call on 01666 503999. Thanks. |
| Next Game v Shortwood United Reserves - 8 August |
6 August 2007 - Two games this week both on Wednesday. At Preston Park the Firsts welcome Shortwood United Reserves in the first competitive match of the season, the First Round of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup, effectively the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Cup. Last Season we got through to Round 2 before losing to Sharpness. Our opponents this year did a little better going out in Round 3. In the other game the Reserves pop down the road to take on Didmarton FC in their first pre-season friendly. Didmarton were promoted to Division 6 of the Stroud League this season. Last year they played the Thirds twice pre-season, winning one and drawing one. It will be interesting to see how they fare against Carl's Reserves. |
| Tetbury Town 2 Kew Association FC 1 |
4 August 2007 - The spirit of football IS alive as today's match at Preston Park proved. A big thank you to Ken Chivers, Ken 'Buj' Wretham and the Kew lads for travelling all the way from London to play us this afternoon. In what turned out to be glorious weather the two sides, neither at full strength it has to be said, entertained us. Tetbury ran out winners in the end but that was secondary to the goodwill that two clubs over a hundred miles apart showed both on and off the field. Kindly invited to return the fixture next pre-season, we should make every effort to accept that invitation and keep alive the spirit that makes us all work hard to help our respective clubs thrive. Good luck to Kew in the forthcoming season and see you all next year! |
| Today's Match v Kew Association FC |
4 August 2007 - Today we welcome a team from Greater London to Preston Park for the third pre-season friendly before the Firsts start their 2008 campaign. Kew Association FC play in the Southern Amateur League and have a long history dating back to 1906. Their most memorable result was an AFA Semi Final victory over Ipswich Town in 1937. More recently Bristol City midfielder, Kevin Betsy played in the Kew first team at 15 years of age before leaving for Woking FC. The connection with Cotswolds is a simple one, Coach Ken Chivers left Tetbury in the early 70s but has maintained links with the town and following a successful trip to Yorkshire last year the team were keen to repeat the experience but not travel quite so far. We look forward to an entertaining afternoon's football. |

| Club Training |
31 July 2007 - Training is at again at Preston Park this Wednesday. 6.30pm at the top pitch in readiness for a 6.45pm start. Please be prompt. Attendance from members of the Reserves and Thirds squads needs to increase following last week's turnout. With just over 4 weeks to the start of the season for these teams it is imperative that players wanting to be considered for a place start to train as soon as possible. No friendlies can be arranged by the Managers until they see who is available and willing to commit. If you are reading this, please pass on the message to fellow squad hopefuls who have no access to the internet. Thanks. |

| Tetbury Town 1 Kings Stanley 2 |
29 July 2007 - Yesterday the Firsts played County side, Kings Stanley at Preston Park in their second pre-season friendly. Having gone 2 - 0 behind, Town managed to reduce the deficit with a goal from Nik Peglar. Two fine saves from the Kings Stanley keeper late in the game kept the final score at 2 - 1 in favour of the Gloucestershire County outfit. There will be a more detailed report as well as Stuart and Rich's views on the game early next week |
