September 5 - Penhill Knights 4 - 1 Tetbury Town

Tetbury Town travelled to Penhill in Swindon on Sunday for their first league game of the season, and came away with a 4 – 1 defeat. During a fairly even first half played in wet and slippery conditions both sides had good chances to break the deadlock with Tetbury goalkeeper Harry Rodgers making some fine saves to keep his side on level terms. At the other end of the pitch Tetbury also did their best to keep the scores level, missing several good chances in front of goal. The deadlock, however, was broken before halftime with Penhill going in one goal to the good thanks to a fine strike. During the second half Penhill proved to be the stronger side scoring three more goals before a late Sam Raines rocket replied for Tetbury.

March 28 - Avonvale 6 – 0 Tetbury Town

Tetbury Town made the short trip to local rivals Avonvale on Sunday, knowing they were facing a team that not only sits at the top of the league but also has a 100% record of winning. Although Vale had the majority of the play in the first half, Tetbury battled and fought with tremendous spirit and it was only a Tetbury own goal that separated the teams at the interval.

In the second half Avonvale kept the pressure on Tetbury and eventually got the all important second goal, which knocked the stuffing out of Town. The hosts added a further four goals in quick succession, which was slightly harsh on Tetbury given the effort they had put in. This local derby ended with a 6-0 win to Vale, but Tetbury can hold their heads up and be proud of the way they battled throughout long periods of the game.

7 March - Tetbury Town 0 - 4  Wroughton

Tetbury went into Sunday’s game against 3rd placed Wroughton hoping to extend their unbeaten run to three matches. The first half was very competitive with some excellent football played by both teams. Josh Bleasdale in the Tetbury goal was on top form making some brilliant saves whilst defender Laurence Cooper was also having a fine game man marking the opposition’s best player. Despite Tetbury having some good chances to open the scoring, it was goalless at half time.

The second period, however, proved entirely different with the away team getting the upper hand and breaking the deadlock with a close range strike. Tetbury had an opportunity to equalise from a penalty awarded for handball, but striker George Aplin’s shot was saved by the keeper. Tetbury couldn't recover and Wroughton punished them with three more goals including a spectacular volley.

21 February - Tetbury Town 2 - 2 Cirencester Town B

Despite being at opposite ends of the league table, Tetbury Town gave as good as they got when they met Cirencester Town B at home on Sunday. After losing to Cirencester on two previous occasions, the game was expected to be difficult but Tetbury pulled out all the stops and played some fine football. Right back Solomon Scott’s crunching tackles set the tone for the game while Tetbury’s goalkeeper Josh Beasdale gave a performance that was nothing short of outstanding. Cirencester’s best efforts were equally matched by goals from Tetbury’s Travis Wood and George Aplin, who own personal tally for the season has now risen to 16. Both teams showed exceptional spirit, despite the wet and muddy conditions, and spectators from both sides commented on what a great game it was to watch.

14 February - Tetbury Town 2 – 2 Chiseldon

Tetbury Town entertained the league’s basement club Chiseldon on Sunday hoping to put the previous week’s 3-0 home defeat to Calne out of sight. However, despite a very good mid week training session and some very positive encouragement, Tetbury found themselves 2-0 down at half time having seemingly forgotten even the most basic rules of football.

After giving themselves a mountain to climb, Tetbury eventually got control of the game and were creating chance after chance with George Aplin adding two more to his already magnificent tally of 15 goals this season. This gave Tetbury a share of the points and their improved second half performance allowed them to show just what a good side they can be. With a little more self belief and confidence they can match anyone in this league.

13 December - Calne 0 - 2 Tetbury Town

Tetbury got back to winning ways at Calne on Sunday with a well deserved 2-0 victory. Tetbury took the lead on a near perfect playing surface when George Aplin bagged his 15th goal of the season from inside the box. Tetbury were totally in control and it was no surprise when midfielder Tom Heslop scored his first of the season from close range to put Tetbury 2-0 up at half time. The second half was more evenly balanced and the home side did hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions, but Tetbury also had chances to extend their lead. It was a very determined performance by Tetbury after the disappointment of losing their last match, which they should have won easily. They now go into the Christmas break knowing that, on their day, they are a match for any side in this league.

29 November - Ashton Keynes 4 - 3 Tetbury Town

Tetbury Town braved the very wet and cold weather to travel to Ashton Keynes for their seventh consecutive away match in the league. Tetbury started brightly and soon found themselves 2-0 up thanks to two well taken goals from George Aplin. Tetbury couldn’t add to their tally and it was the hosts who levelled the score before half time in what proved to be an evenly balance game. The second half continued to be a very competitive battle and it was Tetbury who took the lead again when George Aplin scored his 14th goal of the season to claim yet another hat-trick. However the game took a nasty twist for Tetbury when the hosts equalised and then scored the winner with the last kick of the match, leaving Town feeling absolutely deflated in a game in which they should have easily secured at least a point.

22 November - Tetbury Town 0 – 12 Malmesbury Youth

Tetbury entertained local rivals Malmesbury in the League Cup on Sunday and were taught a lesson in how to put the ball in the back of the net. Although Tetbury were without top scorer George Aplin, they started brightly and could have taken the lead when Josh Bleasdale shot straight at the keeper. However, the floodgates soon opened and despite the game being fairly balanced in open play, the opposition were clinical in and around the Tetbury goal. By the break Malmesbury were 8-0 up.

The second half saw Tetbury at their best and they were more than matching their rivals for long periods of the game. However it was slightly cruel when Malmesbury, who are three leagues higher than Tetbury, scored another four to win the game 12-0. Although Malmesbury were worthy winners the score was harsh on Tetbury. But if the side continue to battle like they did in the second half of this game, they will win more than they lose.

15 November - Croft Juniors B 4 - 2 Tetbury Town

Tetbury travelled to Croft in Swindon on Sunday hoping to add to their recent good run of results and make it four wins on the trot, but unfortunately they came unstuck against a team who are currently 2nd in the league. Although Tetbury started brightly, it was the hosts who took the lead with a fine headed goal. The goal of the game soon followed when a Croft player sweetly smashed the ball over keeper Travis Wood giving him no chance from outside the box. Tetbury pulled a goal back very quickly when midfielder Josh Bleasdale also scored from far out to give Tetbury hope.

The second half was equally balanced, but it was Croft who got the all important next goal to go 3-1 up. Tetbury again refused to give in and pulled a goal back through an own goal and although they pushed hard for an equaliser and even hit the post thanks to a Travis Wood free kick, Croft scored late on to take the 3 points. A very spirited display with some great individual performances from an ever improving Tetbury side that now looks forward to entertaining local rivals Malmesbury in the league cup this Sunday at the Tetbury Recreation Ground.

8 November - Tetbury Town 4 – 1 Wroughton Youth B

Tetbury's U10 squad travelled to Wroughton hoping to continue their recent good form and make it three wins on the trot. But they started the match slowly and were under pressure early on, which put the onus on goalkeeper Travis Wood whose brilliant handling kept them in the game. However, it was only a matter of time before Wroughton went in front and although Tetbury improved, they still went in 1-0 down at half time despite a great shot from George Aplin that went over the bar.

After some half time encouragement from manager Jon Cooper, Tetbury came out a different team and George Aplin soon equalised. Tetbury were now on top and were rewarded for their dominance when they went in front with an Aplin penalty after Travis Wood was brought down in the box. Although Wroughton had their chances in the second half, Tetbury’s George Aplin scored another two goals late on bringing his season tally to 11. Everyone played well but a special mention must go to Joe Fathers in defence who again had a brilliant game.

18 October - Tetbury Town 4 - 3 Penhill Allstars

After four consecutive away games in the league, Tetbury’s U10 squad were at home to higher league opposition Penhill in the first round of the League Cup. In a very entertaining match it was the visitors who took the lead but Tetbury soon levelled when defender Joe Fathers equalised from close range with his second goal of the season. Penhill took the lead twice more but on both occasions Tetbury came back, first when Josh Bleasdale scored from the penalty spot and then when George Alpin took the tie into extra time by poking the ball home from two yards out just minutes from the end.

With extra time nearly over and a penalty shoot out looking like an inevitability, Travis Wood was brought down in the box to give Tetbury their second penalty of the match, which George Aplin fired home to send Tetbury through to the next round.

Tetbury’s squad included Travis Wood, Billy Fudge, Laurence Cooper, Joe Fathers, Ewan Hart, Thomas Heslop, Solomon Scott, George Aplin and Josh Bleasdale. Manager Jon Cooper felt everyone of them deserved the title of Man of the Match, thanks for their determination and hard work, with a special mention to Solomon Scott who made his debut and to Billy Fudge who impresses more each week.

4 October - Stratton Juniors 1 - 2 Tetbury Town

Tetbury’s U10’s travelled to Stratton on Sunday searching for their first league points of the season. The trip got off to an interesting start when the convoy of cars carrying parents and players got lost, eventually arriving at the ground five minutes late.Tetbury’s squad consisted of Travis Wood, Billy Fudge, Ewan Hart, Joe Fathers, Laurence Cooper, Billy Wands, Keziah Cox, Tom Heslop, Josh Bleasdale and George Aplin. With little time to prepare, they started very slowly and found themselves a goal down against their rivals. However they quickly recovered and were soon controlling the game and creating many chances. Unfortunately these failed to connect and Tetbury went in at half time 1-0 down.

The second half saw Tetbury dominating and playing some fantastic football. They soon equalised through George Aplin, who scored his fifth goal of the season. Tetbury continued to create many chances and it was defender Joe Fathers who scored the winner. With just five miutes remaining, he chipped the keeper from the edge of the box and sent the vocal Tetbury supporters home happy. It was a well deserved victory that could and should have been by a bigger margin, but nonetheless provided a very welcome three points. Manager Jon Cooper nominated the entire team at Man of the Match for their brilliant performance and first win of the season. Well played all!

27 September - South Cerney 9 – 2 Tetbury Town

After two previous defeats away from home against the top teams in the league, Tetbury’s Under 10’s travelled to South Cerney on Sunday hoping to get their first points of the season on the board. But despite trying their hardest - and deserving much praise for their effort and commitment - our boys found South Cerney very hard to compete with. This was mainly due to a couple of South Cerney players who excelled both in ability and stature, making them very hard for Tetbury to deal with.Tetbury’s squad, managed by Jon Cooper, included Man of the Match Travis Wood, Ewan Hart, Laurence Cooper, Joe Fathers, Josh Bleasdale, Billy Wands, Tom Heslop, Keziah Cox and George Aplin who scored both Tetbury goals.

Despite being 3-0 down after only five minutes, Tetbury refused to give in and showed great spirit as the game progressed. George Aplin brought his season’s tally of goals to four with two magnificent efforts that kept Tetbury in the game. Special mention also goes to Joe Fathers who was excellent again, and man of match Travis Wood in goal who made some fantastic saves to keep the scoreline in single figures. Despite defeat in the three games played so far, Tetbury’s Under 10’s have shown that have the belief and ability to get their season up and running very soon
